What is Social Business?

13 Oct

There are numerous definitions on what the term social Business means. Social Business can be defined as a modern development transforming the way corporations function and generate value for employees, suppliers, customers, stakeholders and partners, (socialbusinessforum.com:2012).

Within IBM they believe that Social Business is one that becomes engaged, transparent and nimble. Social Business engages with its customers, employees, stakeholders and suppliers in different ways. It is transparent in the way that it opens up and provides access to subject matter experts. It is nimble in the way it reacts quickly when the right people collaborate together and get the job done. This video is interesting as leading UK bloggers David Terrar, David Cushman, Chris Turner and Johnnie Moore collaborate with IBM specialists Jon Mell, Jon Machtynger and Alex Bray to provide their different perspectives on the model of Social Business.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlULxvaPsF4&feature=related

Today there has been a shift in the way a business operates. They now use Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs etc to get the job done. For example, in Robert Berkmans recent article “Using Facebook Helps Customers Solve Problems,” he noted that product manager Long Zheng stated that the Facebook help group commenced as a low-cost forum for his companies’ software beta testers. He noted that when an issue was discussed it was usually other users who responded first before the official team did. It was successful as users helped other users, (Berkman,R.:2012).

Social Business is important for companies to carry out as they can expand their business outcomes such as increased revenue or reduced expenses. In order for Social Business to work effectively, it demands a focus on a company’s content exchanges, connections, culture and analytics and measurement, (Kim,P. :2012). What do others think? Are there different definitions of Social Business that you have come across? As I have written above, there are many definitions of Social Business.
